Application and use

The specially designed surface of the HERMAcopy/laser color offers excellent printability and toner keying with all xerographic printing processes. It has been designed and optimized for colour printers.

The material is of captivating whiteness which is one of the reasons for the outstanding printing results on all usual colour copiers and colour laser printers. Label sheets are suitable for laser printers and copiers which can handle sheets with a weight of more than 135 g/m².

We recommend a production from small reels 217 mm wide or 434 mm wide for two-wide production (original edges of the semi-finished material should not be used). To prevent soiling of the machine we recommend die cutting of the labels with an "all round matrix" or at least with "lengthwise edge protection".

A possible curvature in machine direction (especially near the cores) may be adjusted by a "decurl bar" in the press. Water-based inks may negatively influence stay flat characteristics of the paper. We therefore recommend no use of water-based inks for printing of large areas.

The adhesive 62Dpc is specially designed for A4 sheets, which are used in laser printers and in copiers (in xerographic printing processes). Thanks to the innovative multilayer (double-layer) technology it was possible to increase the cohesion and thus significantly reduce the adhesive bleed. An ideal feed through can be achieved as well as the impurities caused by adhesive bleed can be avoided by the use of the 62Dpc.The 62Dpc has an excellent resistance to aging, heat and light.

Typical areas of application for this coated kraft liner are computer labels for laser printers (continuous or sheet stock), which require higher stiffness.

Processing

Excellent die-cutting characteristics on all customary machines. As part of a self-adhesive compound HERMA KW (527) offers good die-cutting characteristics with all customary flatbed and rotary label cutters.

Storage conditions

Storing at a temperature of 20 ± 5 °C, a relative humidity of 45 ± 5 % and a dark storage is recommended. Moisture, heat and direct sunlight have to be avoided.

The shelf life is four years from date of production.

Regulations concerning contact with food

The paper is approved according to the BfR Recommendation XXXVI. This paper grade according to the sample material submitted may be used safely for food packaging. It may stand in direct contact with dry, non-fatty foodstuffs and such kind of foodstuffs which are peeled, shelled or washed before consumption and may also be used for secondary packaging. All ingredients of adhesive 62Dpc comply with recommendation BfR XIV or FDA 21 CFR 175.105 (Adhesives).

The pressure-sensitive adhesive 62Dpc can be safely used for the back coating of labels for the labelling of foodstuffs for storage at room temperature and below. It may be used in direct contact with dry, moist and fatty foodstuffs that can be assigned a correction factor of at least 4 in accordance with Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011. Furthermore, the adhesive may be used for laminating various materials. In this case, cut edge contact with food is harmless as far as the above mentioned adhesive is concerned. It must be ensured that the relevant migration limits are complied with by the laminated packaging (Declaration of no objection valid until 21.04.2025).

Furthermore the self-adhesive labels with the adhesive 62Dpc can be used for labelling of blood bags (Expert's Opinion from April 21, 2021).

The paper complies with recommendation BfR XXXVI.
