HERMAtherm D is phenol-free and can be used for applications requiring increased resistance to moistue, solvents or grease, e.g. for weight labels (meat packers, supermarkets) or for price marking labels (excellent presentation of EAN and UPC codes). It can be used for moist and dry applications. For applications on soft PVC films individual tests are recommended because contact with plasticizers might have a negative impact on the thermal imprint.
Direct thermal printing is possible with speeds up to 200 mm/s.
The material can be printed by all conventional roll printing methods. The inks should be suitable for thermal paper (solvent-free), a consultation of the ink supplier is recommended. Complete curing of the ink must be ensured. Due to the thermal sensitive characteristics the web temperature during curing should not exceed 50 °C. In general, it is advisable to carry out pretests under customer-specific conditions to ensure suitability.
The pulp for this paper comes from FSC® certified forest management and other controlled sources.
The adhesive 62Gpt shows a very high tack even on cold surfaces down to -10 °C. Due to the high initial tack even on moist surfaces 62Gpt is particularly suited for labelling polar and nonpolar surfaces such as plastic containers, film wrappings and other packaging materials. The 62Gpt suits especially well for fast running dispensers, in which the initial tack has to be built up extremely quickly as f.ex. when the labels are blown on the substrate.Once labelled the adhesive is highly waterproof.
This supercalendered glassine is perfectly suited for assignment in labelling machines equipped with optical or mechanical scanners.Storing at a temperature of 20 ± 5 °C, a relative humidity of 45 ± 5 % and a dark storage is recommended. Moisture, heat and direct sunlight have to be avoided.
The shelf life is two years from date of production.
The thermal paper grade HERMAtherm D (Grade 919) is suitable for direct contact with foodstuffs that are typically washed, shelled, and/or peeled before consumption, based on experience.
For all other forms of food contact, a functional barrier should be used to prevent migration. The functional barriers have been tested and verified as effective for all categories of foodstuffs in which the thermal paper is likely to be used (food packaging for diary products, meats and seafood, fruits and vegetables, cereal products, confectionary, processed and prepared foods, fats, infant products). In any case, a direct contact is not foreseen.
All ingredients of adhesive 62Gpt comply with recommendation BfR XIV or FDA 21 CFR 175.105 (Adhesives).
The pressure-sensitive adhesive 62Gpt can be safely used for the back coating of labels for the labelling of foodstuffs for storage at room temperature and below. It may be used in direct contact with dry, moist and fatty foodstuffs that can be assigned a correction factor of at least 3 in accordance with Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011. Furthermore, the adhesive may be used for laminating various materials. In this case, cut edge contact with food is harmless as far as the above mentioned adhesive is concerned. It must be ensured that the relevant migration limits are complied with by the laminated packaging (Declaration of no objection valid until 25.09.2027).
The paper complies with recommendation BfR XXXVI.frontal
