Application and use

The surface of HERMAtyvek® offers an good printing quality in conventional printing methods like e.g. flexo, screen and offset printing. We recommend special inks with a low content of solvents (< 3 %). UV inks are also possible. HERMAtyvek® requires stronger pression than paper of the same thickness. The polyethylene nonwoven is conditionally printable with thermal transfer and matrix printers.

HERMAtyvek® is highly resistant to weather and chemicals and thus suitable for outdoor applications, e.g. drum and container labelling. It is so robust and durable that it easily withstands even the toughest conditions. The properties of HERMAtyvek® remain unchanged even at extremely low temperatures. When processing/using the material in applications with high tension, the temperature should not exceed +80 °C.

HERMAtyvek® is also suitable for labels requiring a high tear resistance and durability. The PE nonwoven is 100 % recyclable. For recycling reasons, these labels are preferably used on PE surfaces.

Adhesive 62A is a universally applicable permanent adhesive with excellent adhesion properties on various surfaces. It features very high adhesion on both polar and nonpolar (PE) surfaces. The adhesive is suitable for autoclave sterilisation, preferably in combination with vellum paper. The adhesive is highly water proof and particularly resistant to light, heat and ageing.

The supercalendered glassine is perfectly suited for assignment in labelling machines equipped with optical or mechanical scanners.

Processing

Excellent die-cutting characteristics on all customary machines. As part of a self-adhesive compound HERMA PW (520) offers excellent die-cutting characteristics with all customary flatbed and rotary die-cutting tools.

Storage conditions

Storing at a temperature of 20 ± 5 °C, a relative humidity of 45 ± 5 % and a dark storage is recommended. Moisture, heat and direct sunlight have to be avoided.

The shelf life is four years from date of production.

Regulations concerning contact with food

HERMAtyvek® (927) has no food approval. On request we will be pleased to offer you a suitable Tyvek® quality for applications with food contact or for sterile applications.

All ingredients of adhesive 62A comply with recommendation FDA 21 CFR 175.105 (Adhesives).

The pressure-sensitive adhesive 62A can be safely used for the back coating of labels for the labelling of foodstuffs for storage at room temperature and below. It may be used in direct contact with dry, moist and fatty foodstuffs that can be assigned a correction factor of at least 3 in accordance with Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011. Furthermore, the adhesive may be used for laminating various materials. In this case, cut edge contact with food is harmless as far as the above mentioned adhesive is concerned. It must be ensured that the relevant migration limits are complied with by the laminated packaging (Declaration of no objection valid until 29.11.2025).

Furthermore the self-adhesive labels with the adhesive 62A can be used for labelling of blood bags (Expert's Opinion from November 11, 2021).

The paper complies with recommendation BfR XXXVI.
